MULCH & ROCK BEDS.

Bark mulch, decorative rock, weed barrier, and steel or concrete edging — finished plant beds that look intentional and stay low-maintenance.

Why this matters

BEDS THAT
LOOK FINISHED.

Mulch and rock beds are the difference between a yard that looks 'half done' and one that looks finished. They retain soil moisture, suppress weeds, regulate root-zone temperature, and visually unify the planting design.

We install bark mulch (most popular), decorative rock (lava, river rock, crushed granite), weed barrier underlayment, and metal or concrete edging — all in one phase, fully integrated with new or existing plantings.

FAQ

MULCH & ROCK BEDS QUESTIONS.

Mulch or rock — which is better?

Mulch enriches soil, looks softer, needs re-topping. Rock is permanent, low-maintenance, but doesn't enrich soil. We recommend mulch around plants and rock around dry areas.

How often does mulch need topping?

Cedar mulch: every 2-3 years (color fades, decomposes into soil). Hemlock holds color slightly longer. Rock beds: top up every 5-10 years.

Weed barrier under mulch?

No — barriers under mulch prevent the mulch from enriching the soil. Use barriers only under rock.

Metal vs concrete edging?

Metal (steel) is cleanest look, lasts 20+ years, easier to install. Concrete is heaviest, most permanent, used for high-traffic edges.

Cost for typical 200 sqft mulch bed?

$400-$1,000 depending on edging and mulch type.

Can you re-mulch an existing bed?

Yes — strip old mulch (or top, depending on condition), edge, install new mulch.
